First Judicial Circuit Probation District
The First Judicial Circuit is one of three multi-county Probation Districts in the State of Illinois. The First Circuit Probation District is split into two geographic regions. The Eastern Region is comprised of Massac, Pope, Saline, and Williamson Counties and is supervised by Mr. Jeff Watkins, Regional Director. The Western Region is comprised of Alexander, Jackson, Johnson, Pulaski, and Union Counties and is managed by Mr. Edward Tolbert, Regional Director
Offices are maintained in each county of the circuit and staffed by 60 probation officers and support staff and are open from 8:a.m. - 4:p.m. M-F

Public Defender
The Williamson County Public Defender's Office provides legal representation to any persons charged with a criminal offense where incarceration is a possibility or to those persons named as a party in a juvenile delinquency or neglect petitions in juvenile court who are unable to retain a private attorney. Representation begins only after the appointment of counsel by the court. The office is staffed by three full-time licensed attorneys.
