Williamson County is a commission form of Government, which means that there are three commissioners. The commissioner’s job varies day to day. We deal with the Budget, Highway Dept issues, Animal Control issues, Union Negotiations, Economic Development etc. There are roughly 225 employees within our county government. We are very proud of every office holder and employee because they are a big part of our counties success. We try hard to be consistent and fair to our employees.
In 2005 we started a Clean Up Campaign through out our county. We have families; groups and organizations that work together to keep our roadways clean by adopting a County Road. We also have offered several Free Dump Days, which are provided by CWI/Southern Illinois Landfill, Burris Disposal and Allied Waste Co. This whole project has been a real success and we hope that continues. Keeping our county clean is not only good for our environment, but it is good for possible Economic Development. A Commissioners job is also serving on several boards such as Greater Egypt Planning, Crosswalk, Bi-County Health, 708 Mental Health Board etc. It is very important that we are out around the public to help with people’s issues to where we can make our county a better place to live.
The Commissioners are also members of the Board Of Review in which we have meetings regarding property evaluations. At the meeting we review property evaluations with our Supervisor of Assessments, Jeffrey Robinson and we make sure that all people are treated fairly with our decision. We also review properties that request exempt status and the chairman signs off on Homestead Improvement Exemptions and Certificate of Errors.
The Commissioners also have meetings for Road and Bridge which we discuss Highway matters with our County Engineer, Jim Webb.
We have monthly board meetings, which is open to the public. Our meetings are at 10:00 A.M. on the second Tuesday of each month. If the chairman feels it is necessary they can call a special meeting. We must post our agenda 48 hours before our meeting to comply with the Open Meetings Act.
